Natural Disasters



Natural disasters: what they are, definition, types, characteristics and prevention. The term natural disaster refers to the enormous material losses and human lives caused by natural events or phenomena, such as earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, landslides, among others.






NATURAL DISASTERS IN COLOMBIA

During its passage through Colombia, it reached category 5, which caused the destruction of 98% of the island of Providencia and the death of two people, according to the balance of the national government.
In the early hours of November 16, 2020, the island was cut off from the world and it was not known what happened for more than 12 hours.
Once communication was established, the images of the devastation were released: this paradisiacal tourist destination was unrecognizable, with its colorful houses and destroyed streets.
Likewise, the island of San Andrés was seriously affected by the hurricane, also with damage to the island's infrastructure, power outages, several fallen trees, and flooding.
Lota also affected the city of Cartagena, which reported flooding in 34 neighborhoods and more than 155,000 victims.







HURRICANE KATRINA

On August 25, 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit the populated coasts of the southeastern state of Florida, in the USA, with winds of 130 kilometers per hour, causing extensive damage from rainfall, which led to terrible flooding. .
 
From there, it headed for the Gulf of Mexico, where it gained strength fueled by the warmth of the waters and reached category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale. On August 29, Katrina made landfall on the southern coast of the United States, where it devastated infrastructure along some 100 miles of coastline. By the time it reached New Orleans, the cyclone had been downgraded to a Category 3 intensity. Upon making landfall, it rapidly lost strength and stalled on August 31 as it headed northeast. As a result, New Orleans suffered from the effects of a strong storm surge.

UNIT 4 READING FOR PLEASURE (GENRES OF BOOK)

GENRES OF BOOKS I prefer fiction books and I go for short stories, romantic novels but in Spanish, English books are complicated for me, and well I like self-help books that belong to non-fiction, I like these because I feel that help me in knowledge and thus I create the habit of reading. HOW IS A BOOK DESCRIBED  WHAT AM I CURRENTLY READING ?  I am reading a very interesting and constructive book, it is a self-help book called Enamorate de ti by Walter Riso and well apart from that I am reading books that my career demands of me, one of them is the DSM-5 The first deals with a passage of recommendations to grow personally, highlight one's own virtues, I also talked about how to help other people to excel and this for me is very satisfying. The other deals with mental disorders that people may suffer in the course of their lives.
